Give up the idea of changing others. Consider how hard it is to change yourself and what little chance you have of trying to change others. One greatest and most liberating moments in life is the one when we cannot change other people. No matter how much we love them or they love us, such change is entirely a function of personal will and God’s grace. Give love freely and unconditionally, accentuating the strengths and encouraging the good in those around you. Don’t become an enabler of hurtful or damaging behaviour, but also remember that each person is ultimately responsible for his or her personal choices. People do change, often profoundly and genuinely, but such change must come from within. “The only one you can effectively change is yourself!”
